Why would someone fight extradition?
There are several grounds for contesting extradition, such as the risk of torture or inhuman treatment in the requesting country, lack of fair trial guarantees, political motivations behind the request, insufficient evidence, disproportionate punishment, and more. A crucial factor is the individual’s citizenship: in certain jurisdictions, this may prevent extradition. Extradition defense is carried out through courts, international human rights mechanisms, and with the help of lawyers.
