Case Overview

A client contacted our team on behalf of a relative who had been subject to an INTERPOL Red Notice. Although the individual had been detained in France, local authorities ultimately found him innocent and released him without charges. However, the Red Notice remained in place, severely limiting his ability to travel, work, and access financial services.

Despite the favorable ruling, the process of having the Red Notice removed through INTERPOL was delayed. The family sought legal assistance not only to expedite the deletion but also to explore the possibility of financial compensation for the reputational and economic harm caused during and after the detention.

Legal Approach: Removal and Claims Following Wrongful INTERPOL Exposure

This case raised two significant legal challenges. First, our team needed to accelerate the formal removal of the Red Notice from INTERPOL systems. Second, we were asked to assess the client’s eligibility for compensation as a result of wrongful restrictions, reputational damage, and income loss.

Led by Dr. Anatoliy Yarovyi, our legal team first gathered the full documentation from the French court and immigration authorities confirming the acquittal. We then submitted an updated request to the Commission for the Control of INTERPOL’s Files (CCF), including arguments for immediate deletion based on the principles of proportionality, necessity, and final judicial outcome.

As an expert in Red Notice challenges and INTERPOL legal frameworks, Dr. Yarovyi also issued an expert legal opinion assessing potential routes to claim compensation. This included civil litigation options, human rights-based complaints, and diplomatic appeals in cases where INTERPOL cooperation had led to unjust outcomes.

We advised the client on how to gather economic evidence and reputational documentation to support a future claim for damages if pursued.

Result

The CCF has formally acknowledged the removal request and opened a review. The client now has legal representation actively working to erase all traces of the Red Notice and mitigate its lingering effects. In parallel, a legal assessment of compensation viability is underway, with the client prepared to take further legal steps if necessary. The case demonstrates how even after acquittal, continued legal support is essential to reclaim both freedom and justice.
